Highlight of Italy and best food of the trip!
If you are going to Tuscany do not pass up the privilege of being a guest here - and if you are lucky enough to stay when Laura is cooking dinner - say Si, Si, Si! My 2 teenagers weren't that thrilled with visiting hill towns but they loved the villa, the pool, the food and the countryside at Il Canto del Sole. Luciano was always available and willing to take care of us and answer questions and Marco was a delightful waiter. They even set the breakfast table early for us our last morning when we had to leave early for the airport. Everything was beautiful and clean and the AC was great - even though it was cool enough in the evenings that we would have been okay without it.

We stayed in June 2012 for 7 nights. It was a wonderful place to stay and explore the tuscan villages and countryside. The accommodation was spacious and our hosts Laura and Luciano were wonderful. They were in the middle of setting up new accommodation in Siena but still found the time to assist us in every way. Breakfasts were plentiful and the evening home cooked dinner we attended was wonderful, the food was amazing, as good as any restaurant quality in the area. We look forward to being able to return one day to this lovely part of the world. Ciao and thank you for you hospitality.

“The best meal in all of Tuscany”

We can't say enough good things about Il Canto del Sole. Right from the start our hosts, Laura and Luciano were accommodating, warm and friendly. We would go back there in a second. The most memorable part was the unbelievable meal that Laura prepared one night. It felt like a scene out of "Babette's Feast". We especially liked the fact that they are a very green villa, from the solar panels down to the garden for the produce to supply the meals. Our second floor room overlooking the Tuscan country side was spacious and appointed with interesting antiques. Our 4 day stay there was just what we needed to relax and enjoy the heart of Tuscany. By the time we left, we truly felt like one of the family.

Welcome to our Home”

When planning a trip the the Tuscany area we were trying to decide were to stay to be able to explore. On a previous trip to Southern France we had stayed a in another B&B and decided it was a good base and saw Il Canto as offering the same opportunity for the Tuscany area vs. staying in a hotel in Siena. The Il Canto is one of the Argo-tourism areas set up by the the Italians, finding Il Canto is relatively with good directions giving by the Il Canto, a Nav system and directional signs as you get close. Upon entry you feel it is "welcome to our home, you pull up along gravel roads and see the site in the distance. As you pull up an old brick building appears and then you enter and Luciano and Laura say "welcome to our home"! There are 10 rooms and apartments, each room has it's own unique character and furnishings, ours was a double bed queen room. The bathroom was recently redone and very comfortable, the rooms was a bit compact but well appointed and very comfortable, with a view or the gardens. The breakfast area was held outside on the patio with the selections maintained inside. The breakfast spread was bountiful with breads, cheeses, some egg dishes, meats and many other selections. It was a beautiful spread each morning, fresh and well appointed. Each morning we would go over with Luciano our planned trips for the day to explore the Tuscany area. He would give us suggestions of routes and towns to visit. For night, he would give us suggestions for dinner locations in Siena, each reasonable in price and excellent in quality. For one night they asked us about having a dinner at the location, we thought initially it would be informal, it turned out to be formal dinner where most of the guests staying at the B&B joined for dinner. The first course was prosciutto and panzonella salad, followed by stuffed ravioli with cheese, spinach and pesto then chicken, with grapes, zucchini and peppers. The finish was a cornucopia of multiple desserts that included cakes and fruits. It was an elegant dinner that was part of the overall ambiance of this wonderful B&B. It was a great decision for a place to use as our base to explore Siena and the Tuscany region. Laura & Luciano invited us into their home along with the other guests and made our trip to the Tuscany regions very special.

“what a lovely place”

Thank you Laura, Luciano, and Marco for a wonderful stay. We left feeling a part of your family. We did not have a car (oops- I def recommend getting a car if staying outside of Siena) and Luciano was very accommodating and picked us up from the train station- even though it was late when we arrived. He checked us in and then offered us a glass wine to help us settle in. We stayed for 4 nights and could have stayed longer. The rooms were very quiet, spacious, clean, and homey. The mattress in our room was very old- so wasn't too comfortable, but everything else made up for it. We rented the mountain bikes available and took a bike ride through the Tuscan valley. Since we didn't have a car- it was difficult to get meals- but Laura had no problem cooking up lunch for us when requested. It was an extra charge- but very minimal. During our stay we were also lucky enough to participate in a dinner on the patio under the stars in Siena! Laura cooked up a delicious 5 course homemade meal for the entire B&B while Luciano served us. This was our fondest memory of our trip to Italy. The food was amazing and it really gave us the authentic Italian experience. Breakfast was very nice with a huge spread of fresh pastries, fruit, cereal, and bread. Luciano and Marco served hot cappuccinos or espressos that were delicious. I would go back to this B&B in a heartbeat. The service provided was above and beyond. Our stay was relaxing and memorable- just what we were looking for.
